B.C. Buy Local Campaign

BCLocalRoot.ca and LOCO BC joined forces in early 2022 to conduct the first ever B.C. Buy Local Campaign focused on B.C.'s food and beverage brands.

This B.C. Buy Local Campaign was funded by the Government of Canada's Shop Local Initiative, with funding dispersed through the B.C. Chamber of Commerce.

LOCO BC is a non-profit organization building stronger communities with applied research of the policies and practices of a fair and just economy, contributing to a world where resilient communities are based on shared economic prosperity. They engage businesses and educate consumers on the importance of supporting independent businesses, research the challenges faced by independent businesses, advocate for reducing these barriers, and work to build bridges between businesses and policymakers.

When you buy local, you help build a stronger communities. Local businesses buy from other businesses in the community — growers, makers, manufacturers, graphic designers, accountants, repair services and credit unions, just to name a few. An amazing number and variety of food products are made right here in B.C. Their producers are committed to being the best employers, to creating great jobs, and they buy from local suppliers and support a stronger community.

The B.C. Buy Local campaign encourages consumers to shift at least 1% of their spending — just $15 — to a local business, or a local grown or local made product. If all consumers make a 1% shift, it will create 3,100 jobs and sends $94M in wages to workers in B.C.
