Kula means " Eat" in Swahili. Kula Kitchen is a plant-based food company in Vancouver, BC. They create Afrocentric plant-based foods that are rich in flavour, nutritious, and satisfying.
Asha Wheeldon's journey started in Kenya where sharing food with your community was an important part of every day. She migrated to Toronto as a young teenager where she was introduced to West African, Caribbean, and Middle Eastern cuisine and culture. After moving to Vancouver she was inspired to create something unique that is reflective of her experiences by connecting people to their food and community. This is how Kula Kitchen came to be.
As Black and Woman-Owned business, Kula Kitchen is on a mission to create spaces to share their experiences, culture and food through cooking classes like Chop It Up! They also work with non profit organizations to offer accessible nourishing food for the community.
